FW OEM message regarding Outdoor Warning Systems

This message is copied from an eMail alert I got throught the FW Office of Emergency Management    (@FWOEM):

** The City of Fort Worth sirens may be activated for any kind of emergency – not just severe weather. Though some residents still think of them as tornado sirens, that’s not the case. While they are used during severe weather, they may be used for other emergencies such as: hazardous materials, terrorism, or national emergencies. The sirens are an OUTDOOR warning system and may not be heard indoors or in a noisy area.

The system is tested every Wednesday of each month at 1:00 pm, weather permitting. The system is tested for 90 seconds on the first Wednesday and for 15 second for the remaining Wednesday’s in the month. If you hear the sirens at any other time you should go inside, tune into your local radio or television station for additional information and instructions. **

To report a siren malfunction please call 817-392-6170 or after business hours at 817-392-8866.
