Proposal to Vulnerable Road User Law via @DallasPD

The most common factor of a bicycle/vehicle accident involves bicyclist entering the roadway from a sidewalk.

When on the road, cyclists are subject to the same laws as vehicles.

Cyclists riding on public sidewalks will yield right of way to pedestrians

{Additional responsibilities can be found in Chapter 9 of the City of Dallas City Code.}
Here are some Proposals: to the City Council for the Vulnerable Road User Law.  A full briefing will be given at a later date

Bike lanes will be designated by striping and pavement markings exclusive for use of bicyclists

Cycle Tracks is a one or two way lane separated from motor vehicle Traffic and distinct from the sidewalk for cyclist.

Shared lanes is open for all vehicle use, with markings indicating the appropriate positioning for the cyclist.

The proposed Vulnerable Road User law will include only human powered wheeled vehicles and will define what is a safe turn, designates cyclist lane when possible.  Throwing or projecting items at cyclist is also specifically addressed

There is also a proposal to increase Buffering Bike lanes throughout city of Dallas.  A buffered Bike lane has space between bike lane & adjacent travel lane
